Accessing and Interpreting Your ChalkTalk Practice Test Scores

Here is a breakdown of how to find and what to expect on your ChalkTalk practice test score reports for each curriculum.

How to Access Practice Test Scores

  1. Select the curriculum and your class section.

  2. Navigate to the Test tab.

  3. Select the Practice Test results you wish to review (e.g., Practice Test 1).

  4. Under the list of subject test sittings, click on Scores.

Understanding the Score Breakdown by Test

The Score page provides both individual student results and class-wide averages for a comprehensive performance review.

Important Note: A complete, accurate total score and class average for any curriculum (ACT, PSAT, SAT, CLT, TSIA2) is only calculated if the teacher administers all subject test sittings required for that full test.

For example, to get a total ACT Composite Score, results from the English, Math, and Reading sections must all be administered and recorded. The Science section has been omitted from the ACT composite score to reflect the revisions to the official ACT test, which now makes the Science portion optional.

Viewing and Utilizing Practice Test Reports

The Reports section provides a deeper, more granular analysis of student performance to help you identify specific strengths and areas for instructional focus.

How to Access Practice Test Reports

  1. Select the curriculum and your class section.

  2. Navigate to the Test tab.

  3. Select the Practice Test results you wish to review (e.g., Practice Test 1).

  4. Click on Reports (located directly underneath Scores).

The Question Analysis Grid

This report is structured as a grid for an immediate, visual snapshot of class performance.

  • Structure: Questions are displayed in columns, and students are listed in rows.

  • Color-Coding: The color of the circle in each cell indicates the student's response for that specific question:

    • 🟢 Green: The student answered the question correctly.

    • 🔴 Red: The student answered the question incorrectly.

    • ⚪ Grey: The student did not answer (or skipped) the question.

Navigating and Interpreting Ungraded Questions

Each official test (PSAT, SAT, ACT, TSIA2, CLT) has a specific report tab for each subject test sitting (e.g., Math Sitting 1, Reading Sitting 2).

  • Ungraded Questions: Some standardized tests, such as the PSAT and SAT, include a few ungraded, or "field test," questions. If you see a grey circle for all students in a single question column, this indicates that the question was one of the ungraded items that does not count toward the final score.

  • Skipped Questions: A simple grey circle for an individual student means that student did not respond to that particular question.

  • Switching Views: You can easily move between the different subject-specific test sittings by clicking on the corresponding tab at the top of the report.

Item-by-Item Analysis Report: Reviewing Student Responses

Directly beneath the Question Analysis Grid, you will find the second key report: an item-by-item analysis detailing the exact answer choice selected by each student. This report is also separated by tabs for each subject-specific test sitting.

Understanding the Response Data

This report focuses on the actual answer selected for every question:

Drilling Down to the Question and Distribution

Each question is represented by a column, and the column header provides crucial information:

  • Answer Distribution: At a glance, the column header shows the distribution of student responses (how many students chose A, B, C, D, etc.).

  • Accessing the Question: You can click on the column header to open a pop-up with the full question text, all answer choices, and the correct response.

Important Note on Answer Choice Shuffling

Please be aware of how answer choices are presented in this report versus the original question:

  • Shuffling: To ensure test security and integrity, the answer choices for questions are shuffled when presented to students during the practice test.

  • Report vs. Question View:

    • The letter shown as the "Correct Answer" (e.g., A) in the report column header refers to the letter assigned when the question was originally created.

    • When you click into the question pop-up, you are seeing the answer choices as they were shuffled for your students.

  • The Correct Response is Always the Text: Regardless of the letter that appears as the correct answer (A in the report, C in the question view), the correct response is always the actual answer text associated with that choice. Always rely on the text content to confirm the correct answer.
